Steady Progress

Posture much better, at times normal.  Voice louder. Three small areas of the scalp incision are slow to heal but no signs of infection or breakdown; will be reevaluated by the plastic surgeon in a few weeks.  Appetite is excellent and eating very healthy and balanced; strictly maintaining caloric intake in mid-range adjusted for activity level.  Cognition and decision-making much improved with faster response time.  There is still significant right-sided weakness but continues to improve slowly.  Transitions from lying down to sitting to standing are much more independent requiring almost no exertion on my part.  Walking the length of the room to wheelchair with minimal assist for balance and safety only.  A rollator (a walker with four wheels and handheld breaks) is on the way which could take the place of the wheelchair for room to room transfers. Practicing self-propelling wheelchair skills and getting good at moving around the living spaces.  Her "tilt-in-space" wheelchair customization is completed and is being manufactured.  It is equivalent to a very comfortable lazy chair recliner with big wheels.  It is very easy to take long naps on it in the living room or on long trips if we buy a wheelchair-accessible van.  We've begun major deck and ramp work in the front and back of the house for safety and for access to the yard. I am working on a six-month-old stack of mail that's two feet tall!

Mia is adjusting very well.  Praise God!  My older brother who has essentially moved in with us is a huge help.  I really don't think we could manage without him.

Love and Blessings,

  2. It is wonderful to read about the improvements of mobility and cognition for Rie! Praising God for all steps forward and anticipating and proclaiming in the mighty name of Jesus for full mobility in her right arm and all muscle groups to return to full strength and mobility. May the Lord unlock those areas that have been locked! God’s promise will come to fruition as he is always good and always faithful to his promises! πŸ€—❤️
